Akyenkwaa Nana: Wontumi Radio Presenter Released From Police Custody After Securing GH₵100k Bail

Wontumi Radio presenter Akyenkwaa Nana Kofi Asare has been released from police custody after securing being granted bail by the Accra High Court in the amount of GH¢100,000 with two sureties.

On Thursday, August 28, 2025, veteran broadcaster Gordon Asare-Bediako took to his official social media pages to confirm that his colleague had satisfied all his bail conditions and had finally secured his freedom after being in police detention for two weeks.
He also shared that Akyenkwaa Nana Kofi Asare was expected to appear before the Accra High Court on Monday, Spetember 1, 2025.

Following his release from police custody on Thursday, August 28, 2025, Akyenkwaa Nana Kofi Asare spoke for the first time after securing his bail.
In a video, he noted that his two-weeks detention in police custody was part of God's plan and that he had come out of the experience as a new man.

Akyenkwaa Nana Kofi Asare also expressed his gratitude to his boss Chairman Wontumi for his immense support throughout his ordeal at the hands of the police.
He also thanked former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and other top executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for also supporting him.
Akyenkwaa Nana Kofi Asare also extended his gratitude to the Ghana Police, the judge and the judicial service for their handling of his case.
The embattled political talk show host also hinted at making a quick return on the airwaves at Wontumai Radio following his release.

Akyenkwaa Nana's arrest and court appearances
Akyenkwaa Nana Kofi Asare was arrested by suspected national security operatives in Ejisu on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, over some allegations he made against President John Dramani Mahama after the tragic helicopter crash.

Following the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight Ghanaians on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, the Wontumi TV presenter accused the president of being responsible for the accident.
He also urged the families of the eight deceased Ghanaians to hold the President solely accountable for the loss of their loved ones.
Akyenkwaa Nana Kofi Asare received condemnation from many Ghanaians, who described his remarks as reckless and insensitive.
The Kumasi-based media personality was subsequently denied bail and remanded in police custody following his appearance at the Accra Circuit Court on two different occasions.
On Wednesday, August 27, 2025, Akyenkwaa Nana Kofi Asare was finally granted bail by the Circuit Court 9 in the amount of GH¢100,000 with two sureties.
Justice Samuel Acquah indicated that the sureties should be public servants, with one earning not less than GH¢5,000 a month.

Akyenkwaa Nana smiles after securing bail
Earlier, YEN.com.gh reported that Akyenkwaa Nana smiled after securing bail at the Accra Circuit Court on Wednesday, August 27, 2025.
In a video, the embattled Wontumi TV presenter was in high spirits as he left the court premises in handcuffs with some policemen.
Akyenkwaa Nana also received support from some of his associates as he was escorted into the police vehicle.
