The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Akim Oda constituency, Alexander Akwasi Acquah, has courted attention over a video of him in Parliament that surfaced on social media.

On Thursday, July 3, 2025, the MP, a member of the Minority caucus in the legislative chamber, joined his colleagues to welcome India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to witness proceedings and honour India's rich culture and legacy.

Vice-President of Ghana, Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, accompanied the leader of the South Asian country to parliament.

In a viral video seen by YEN.com.gh, Alexander Akwasi Acquah wore a pagdi and a traditional Bandhgala suit, which is a traditional Indian men's attire.

The Pagdi is a traditional headgear or a turban wrapped around the head and is made from a long piece of cloth, worn by men in India, particularly in the states of Rajasthan, Haryana, and Punjab.

In the Indian culture, the Pagdi symbolises honour, respect, and prestige and is often worn on special occasions like weddings, religious ceremonies, and festivals.

MP Acquah wears Indian outfit in Parliament

The MP's outfit captured the attention of the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, who acknowledged his code of dressing in the presence of the Indian Prime Minister.

The Akim Oda MP's colleague and Member of Parliament for Essikadu-Ketan, Dr Grace Ayensu-Danquah, also wore a Sari dress, a traditional indian garment, frequently worn during special occasions like weddings, festivals, and religious ceremonies. In the Indian culture, the Sari dress signifies heritage, femininity, and tradition.

The two MPs beamed with a smile as they showcased their beautiful attire, while Narendra Modi, on a two-day visit, watched them with excitement.

Mahama honours Narendra Modi with highest medal
