GLICO Makes Huge Donations With Insurance Benefits to Families of Helicopter Crash Victims

GLICO General Insurance has demonstrated its commitment to social responsibility by providing support to the families affected by the August 6 helicopter disaster.

The company fulfilled its obligation by paying out personal accident benefits to the families of the two ministers who had active policies with GLICO. Fortunately, in a remarkable show of compassion, the support did not end there.

To ensure that every bereaved family received care, GLICO donated an additional GH¢2 million to the relatives of the six other victims who were not covered under its policies.

Managing Director, Andrew Achampong-Kyei, emphasised that insurance is about more than policies and premiums - it is about people, compassion, and showing up when it matters most.

He reaffirmed GLICO’s resolve to be a pillar of support for Ghanaians in their most difficult moments.

In his words, he said:

“I’ll encourage you all that it’s important we protect our lives. Having insurance should be part of our social fabric, so we safeguard our lives and investments,” he said.

Edward Forkuo Kyei, the Group Chief Executive Officer, also spoke with the family of the deceased. While expressing his condolences, he gave his assurance that they will always stand by them and would not abandon the families.

“You are not standing alone; we are with you. It is for this reason we express our deepest condolences,” he noted.

The donations and benefits the victims' families received from the insurance company are expected to relieve them of some financial burden. This kind gesture showed that GLICO was committed to making a positive impact on the lives of Ghanaians.

Recognised board commences investigation of helicopter crash

YEN.com.gh also reported that the Ministry of Defence announced the official commencement of investigations into the recent Ghana Air Force Z-9 helicopter crash.

The crash in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti region on August 6 claimed the lives of eight people.

The Air Force and the Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation and Prevention Bureau of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority will be part of the probe.

VP consoles families of helicopter crash victims

YEN.com.gh had earlier reported that Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang visited the bereaved families of the helicopter crash victims after their burial service.

She led a high-level delegation that included Chief of Staff Julius Debrah on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, to console the grieving relatives and assure them of the government’s support.

During the visit, she interacted with families, including the widows of Samuel Sarpong and Samuel Aboagye, at a plush residence, underscoring the NDC administration’s commitment.
