A heartbreaking clip concerning the forgotten legacy of a pride in the nation, Ghana Airways, has sparked tearful reactions online.

In a video, a concerned citizen stumbled upon the remnants of Ghana Airways. It was heartbreaking because it was once the proud national carrier, not a thing of the past.
The Ghana Airways Limited, which ceased operations in 2004, was the flag carrier of Ghana, with its main base of operation and hub at the Kotoka International Airport in Accra. The Airways used to fly big planes called DC-10 and VC-10. The latter known for its speedy take-off.
Sadly, the video captured the dilapidated state of an abandoned Ghana Airways aircraft, now withering in a remote, overgrown field. The aircraft, a symbol of the airline's former glory, now stands as a reminder to Ghanaians about the corrupt actions by some politicians.

What happened to Ghana Airways?
The video's creator also joined many to express frustration over the lack of media attention to this poignant piece of Ghanaian history. This moment highlighted a broader narrative of neglect and forgotten potential in Ghana.
Airways, established in 1958, was once a beacon of national pride, connecting Ghana to international destinations such as the United States, Australia, and Japan. However, by the early 2000s, the airline was grappling with significant debt, poor management, and overstaffing.

According to historical records, the airline's debt ballooned to approximately $160 million, and despite efforts to restructure through partnerships, such as with South Africa's Nationwide Airlines, Ghana Airways was liquidated in 2004.

UK airline ceases operation
Earlier, YEN.com.gh had reported that the British airline Flybe ceased trading, with all flights cancelled after entering administration. The UK Civil Aviation Authority advised passengers not to go to airports, stressing the airline would no longer operate.
Flybe had only resumed operations in April, 2022, after a previous collapse during the coronavirus crisis devastated the travel industry.
Once a leader in UK domestic flights, its assets were later acquired by Thyme Opco, linked to Cyrus Capital
