The fire outbreak reportedly started at midnight on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, affecting the market square and destroying properties worth millions of cedis that stood in its path.
In a sad video spotted online, a physically distraught market trader, speaking amid the ruins of the fire outbreak, confirmed that her sister's and her shop were completely burnt down.
Though the cause of the fire was yet to be disclosed at the time of filing this report, some eyewitness claimed that gas cylinders placed at the market had exploded, causing the fire to spread rapidly.
On the trader's account, she explained the devastating impact of the fire, stating that when her sister arrived at the scene and saw the destruction, she was overwhelmed and fainted, collapsing on the spot.
"Please, yes, our shop was right here. Right now, I'm the one affected. When she [my sister] came, she couldn't even stand; she fainted."
She added that as soon as her sister fainted, she was immediately taken away for medical care. She also narrated that all their merchandise, including new stock they had just bought in on August 22, was lost in the blaze.
