Former Assin Central MP and flagbearer aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kennedy Agyapong, has expressed gratitude to his supporters for their belief in his candidacy

On Wednesday, August 27, 2025, the former MP was at the NPP headquarters at Asylum Down in Accra to file his forms to contest the flagbearer race, scheduled for January 31 next year.

On arrival at the party office, Agyapong was met with a sea of NPP delegates and sympathisers who had travelled from far and near to register their support for his presidential bid.

In a social media post thanking his supporters, he appeared to have thrown a subtle jab at his main opponent for the flagbearer race, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the former Vice-President.

He suggested that the massive support he received at the filing of his nominations was pure, organic, and without any hype.

"The people showed up, the streets roared and the message was clear. The organic love I received speaks louder than words, pure and unstoppable, not hype but authentic and together in unity and strength, the future is ours," he wrote on X.

His post comes a day after his opponent submitted his nominations at the party head office in the company of a massive crowd of supporters.

The viral post by Agyapong seemed to suggest that the crowd that followed Dr Bawumia was rented and not organic as compared to his.

The former MP and Dr Bawumia previously faced off for the NPP 2023 presidential primary, with the latter winning by over 60% of the vote.

Agyapong's camp casts doubt on Bawumia’s chances

Meanwhile, YEN.com.gh reported earlier that Kennedy Agyapong’s spokesperson, Kwasi Kwarteng, said that Dr Bawumia would not help the NPP win power in 2028 if made flagbearer.

With the race between the politicians heating up, he claimed the former Vice-President was unmarketable and posed no threat to his campaign, but could instead endanger the party’s future.
